Oni emerges PDP national vice chairman


Osogbo – THE immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Engr Segun Oni, yesterday, emerged the National Vice Chairman (South West) of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, at the party’s zonal congress held in Osogbo, Osun state.
Oni, who emerged as a consensus candidate from Ekiti State, where the post was zoned to prior to the congress, had the support of all the delegates from the six states of the zone as they voted overwhelmingly for him.

Addressing the delegates before the election, Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees and former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, urged members of the party to be mindful of the quality of leaders they elect at all levels.
Obasanjo who appealed to those who might not get the position they aspired for not to feel disappointed, said they might get higher positions in future.
The former President also urged the new leaders of PDP in the zone to take it as a challenge to raise the party up and high.
Speaking after his election, Oni said he would unite the party, and work hard to move it forward, stressing that he needed the support of all and sundry for the realization of his aim.
He promised that in the next two weeks the party would witness massive transformation.
Others elected were ex- officio members from Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo and Ekiti states.Those that emerged were Alhaja Murat Olorunkemi, Gladis Omowunmi George , Ambassador Tunde Oladunjoye, Alhaji Kola Olofinde, Olumide Adegbile and Mrs M. B. Balogun respectively .
The nomination of Balogun as a consensus candidate was initially opposed until the post was subjected to voting between her and Mrs Aluko Tosin , which Balogun eventually won.
Other zonal officers elected by consensus were financial secretary, legal adviser, treasurer, women leader, auditor, youths leader, organizing secretary, publicity secretary. Mr Deji Doherty was elected for the position of zonal organizing secretary, latter turned down the post on the excuse that , the position belittle his status.
The position of zonal secretary given to Mr Jide Damarzio was opposed by the delegates who came with him from Lagos state.
